In the event of a traffic accident, a Concord police officer will provide you with an exchange slip that includes a report number and the other driver’s insurance details. Here’s your guide to obtaining the actual police report for an accident that occurred in Concord, NC.

Online Report Access

In Concord, there are currently no online options to obtain car accident reports. Requests for an official report will need to be made in person, by mail, or through your insurance agent or car accident attorney.

In-Person Retrieval

To collect your report in person, you can do so at the Concord Police Department. With a valid ID, you can pick up your report at the department’s records division, located at 41 Cabarrus Ave W, Concord, NC 28025. There is no charge for obtaining a report if you’re an involved party.

Obtaining Reports from the DMV

All accident reports in North Carolina are filed using the DMV-349 form. For a report from the DMV, you can visit the DMV Crash Report Unit in Raleigh or mail in a Crash Report Request Form TR-67A. This form can be downloaded from NCDOT here. The address for mailing is 3105 Mail Service Center, Raleigh, NC 27699-3105. Please note that the DMV does not offer faxing or emailing of accident reports.

Insurance Agent Assistance

Alternatively, your insurance agent can assist in obtaining the report. They can reach out to the Concord Police Department’s records division on your behalf. The contact number for the division is (704) 920-5052. Your agent will be required to present an official request on company letterhead, and the department will provide the report via email or fax.

Obtaining the Report Through Your Lawyer

Your Concord, NC lawyer will  request an accident report on your behalf. This is something your lawyer will always request on your behalf, especially in cases involving personal injury claims or car accident claims..

The process typically involves the lawyer submitting a formal request to the appropriate law enforcement agency’s records division or the state’s department of motor vehicles. This request may need to include specific information about the accident, a release or authorization signed by the client, and any required payment for the report.

Jurisdiction and Accident Location

It’s important to note that the Concord Police Department handles accidents within city limits. If your accident occurred outside Concord, the responsibility for the report might lie with the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office or the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, depending on the location.

Highway Patrol Investigations

For accidents investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, reports are typically available online within a few business days through the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV) website.
