How Do I Decide When to Hire a Car Accident Lawyer?

There are a few questions you should ask yourself when deciding whether or not to hire a car accident lawyer.

Did You Suffer Any Injuries?

This is the most critical question to ask yourself. You may consider other options if you were involved in a car accident and suffered no injuries. However, if you did suffer injuries, even minor ones, it is important to consult with a lawyer. Your lawyer will be able to help you determine whether or not your injuries warrant filing a personal injury claim.

Is Fault for the Accident Clear?

If you were not at fault for the accident, you might have a strong case against the other driver. It is worth consulting with a personal injury attorney in this situation. Your lawyer will be able to help you gather evidence and establish a strong case against the other driver.

Do You Have Damages Beyond Car Repair Costs?

If your car was totaled or suffered extensive damage in the accident, you might be entitled to compensation for more than just the cost of repairs. If the other driver was at fault, their insurance company should compensate you for the fair market value of your car. You may also be entitled to a rental car while your car is being fixed or loss of use for the time you are without a vehicle. An experienced car accident attorney will know how to negotiate with insurance companies and get you the compensation you are entitled.

Is the Insurance Company Difficult to Work With?

Insurance companies are notorious for being difficult to work with and lowballing claimants. If you have been in a car accident, you will likely need to deal with the other driver’s insurance company. It is worth hiring an attorney if you find yourself in this situation. An experienced lawyer will know how to deal with insurance companies and get you the compensation you deserve.

What to Expect During Your Consultation With a Concord Car Accident Lawyer

During your consultation with a Concord car accident lawyer, you can expect to discuss the details of your accident. Your lawyer will want to know what happened, where, and who was involved. You should also be prepared to discuss your injuries and what losses you have incurred. Your lawyer will use this information to assess your case and determine whether or not you have a valid claim. If you have a valid claim, your lawyer will begin gathering evidence and presenting the strongest possible case.

How Do I Know If I Have a Valid Claim?

There is no simple answer to this question. Each car accident case is unique and must be evaluated on its own merits. However, your claim must meet a few general things for it to be a valid case.

  1. You must have suffered some injury or damage due to the accident. This could be property damage, such as damage to your car, or physical injuries, such as whiplash or broken bones. If you did not suffer any injuries or damages, you likely do not have a valid claim.
  2. North Carolina is a contributory negligence state.  This means that even if you were only 1% responsible for causing your accident, you would be 100% barred from recovery.
  3. Your injuries or damages must be significant enough to warrant filing a lawsuit. If your injuries are minor and you only suffered property damage, then it is unlikely that filing a personal injury lawsuit will be worth your time and money. However, it may be worth pursuing a legal claim if you suffered serious or permanent injuries or extensive property damage.

If you are unsure whether or not your claim is valid, the best course of action is to consult with an experienced car accident lawyer. You should also gather evidence from the accident scene. This could include photos of the damage, witness statements, and the police report. The more evidence or proof you have, the stronger your case will be.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Your Lawyer

Not all car accident lawyers are created equal. When choosing a lawyer to represent you, it is important that you take the time to find someone who is a good fit for you and your case. Here are a few factors to consider when choosing your lawyer:

  • Experience: When it comes to car accident cases, experience matters. You want to choose a lawyer who has successfully handled cases like yours in the past.
  • Knowledge: It is important to choose a lawyer who routinely handles car accidents and personal injury cases. They will have an underlying knowledge of what it takes to prove your case and how to deal with insurance adjusters to get you full and fair compensation.
  • Reputation: It is also important to choose a lawyer with a good reputation. You can learn about a lawyer’s reputation by reading online reviews and speaking to people who have previously worked with them.

At The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor, we have the experience, knowledge, and reputation you are looking for in a car accident lawyer. We have successfully represented many victims of auto accidents throughout Concord, Charlotte, Hickory, and other areas in North Carolina. We are ready to put our skills to work for you.

How Much Does a Concord Car Accident Lawyer Cost?

One of the most common questions from potential clients is, “How much does a car accident lawyer cost?” We understand that many people are hesitant to hire a lawyer because they are worried about the cost.

The good news is that most personal injury attorneys, including us, work on a contingency fee basis. You will not have to pay any upfront costs or hourly fees. We only get paid if we are successful in recovering compensation for you.

Filing Personal Injury Claims in Concord, North Carolina

If you were involved in a car accident and believe you have a valid claim, the next step is to present your personal injury claim to the insurance company. In Concord, North Carolina, most personal injury claims must be settled or a lawsuit filed to preserve the statute of limitations within three years of the date of the accident. If you fail to file your claim within this time frame, you will likely be barred from recovering any compensation.

If you are unsure about how to proceed with your injury claim or have questions about the statute of limitations, we can help. At The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor, we have extensive experience handling car accident cases in Concord, NC. An experienced attorney at our firm will guide you through every step of the process and ensure that your claim is filed correctly and on time.

How Much Money Can I Recover in a Concord Car Accident Claim

All car accident claims are different. The amount of money you are eligible to recover will depend on the specific details of your case. You may generally recover compensatory damages, including medical bills, lost wages, and property damage. You may also be able to recover punitive damages in some cases. Additionally, if you lost a loved one in a car accident, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim.

STEPS INDIVIDUALS CAN TAKE TO HELP PROTECT PERSONAL INFORMATION

Monitor Your Accounts

Under U.S. law, a consumer is entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. To order a free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call, toll-free, 1-877-322-8228. Consumers may also directly contact the three major credit reporting bureaus listed below to request a free copy of their credit report.

Consumers have the right to place an initial or extended “fraud alert” on a credit file at no cost. An initial fraud alert is a 1-year alert that is placed on a consumer’s credit file. Upon seeing a fraud alert display on a consumer’s credit file, a business is required to take steps to verify the consumer’s identity before extending new credit. If consumers are the victim of identity theft, they are entitled to an extended fraud alert, which is a fraud alert lasting seven years. Should consumers wish to place a fraud alert, please contact any of the three major credit reporting bureaus listed below.

As an alternative to a fraud alert, consumers have the right to place a “credit freeze” on a credit report, which will prohibit a credit bureau from releasing information in the credit report without the consumer’s express authorization. The credit freeze is designed to prevent credit, loans, and services from being approved in a consumer’s name without consent. However, consumers should be aware that using a credit freeze to take control over who gets access to the personal and financial information in their credit report may delay, interfere with, or prohibit the timely approval of any subsequent request or application they make regarding a new loan, credit, mortgage, or any other account involving the extension of credit. Pursuant to federal law, consumers cannot be charged to place or lift a credit freeze on their credit report. To request a credit freeze, individuals may need to provide some or all of the following information:

1. Full name (including middle initial as well as Jr., Sr., II, III, etc.);
2. Social Security number;
3. Date of birth;
4. Addresses for the prior two to five years;
5. Proof of current address, such as a current utility bill or telephone bill;
6. A legible photocopy of a government-issued identification card (state driver’s license or ID card, etc.); and
7. A copy of either the police report, investigative report, or complaint to a law enforcement agency concerning identity theft if they are a victim of identity theft.

Should consumers wish to place a credit freeze or fraud alert, please contact the three major credit reporting bureaus listed below:
