Personal Injury Law in Greensboro, North Carolina

The first step in legal action after being injured in an accident is contacting a personal injury lawyer. North Carolina law requires that all claims for personal injuries be filed within three years of the accident date.

This may seem like a long time, but it is important to get started on your case as soon as possible. The sooner you contact a lawyer, the sooner they can begin working on your behalf. Also, there are some exceptions to this three year statute of limitations, so it is important to talk to your lawyer about what the statute of limitations is in your case.

What Does a Greensboro Personal Injury Lawyer Do?

A personal injury lawyer will investigate your case and gather evidence to support your claim. They will also interview witnesses and review medical records. Once they have all the facts, they will work with you to build a strong legal case and maximize your recovery.

In addition, your lawyer will negotiate with the insurance company on your behalf. Insurance companies are often reluctant to pay out on claims, but a good lawyer will fight to get you the compensation you deserve.

Personal Injury Cases We Handle in Greensboro, North Carolina

Here are a few of the injury cases we can help you with:

  • Car accidents
  • Truck accidents
  • Motorcycle accidents
  • Bicycle accidents
  • Pedestrian accidents
  • Slip and fall accidents
  • Dog bites
  • Medical malpractice

If you have been injured in any type of accident where someone else may be at fault, it is important to contact a personal injury lawyer in Greensboro, NC, as soon as possible.

Why You Need a Personal Injury Lawyer

When you are injured in an accident, you face many challenges. You may be dealing with expensive medical bills, lost wages, and the pain and suffering caused by your injuries. The last thing you need to worry about is how you will pay your bills.

Personal injury attorneys take care of all the legal aspects of your case so that you can focus on recovery. They will work to get you the best possible outcome in your case, whether that is a settlement or a trial verdict.

Proving Negligence and Liability in Personal Injury Claims

To win a personal injury case, you must prove that the other party was negligent. This means that they failed to take reasonable care to prevent your injuries.

There are many different ways to prove negligence. For example, if the other party was speeding or driving under the influence of alcohol, they may be considered negligent.

Once you have proven that the other party was negligent, you must then prove that their negligence caused your injuries. This can be done by showing that your injuries would not have occurred if the other party had not been negligent.

What You Need to Prove Negligence

To prove negligence, you will need to gather evidence. This may include witness statements, photos or videos of the accident scene, and your own testimony.

It is important to gather this evidence as soon as possible. The sooner you contact a personal injury lawyer who handles cases in Greensboro, NC, the sooner they can begin working on your case.

What Happens If You Are Partially Liable For Your Accident?

In some cases, the injured party may be partially liable for their own accident. This is known as contributory negligence.

For example, if you were crossing the street and were hit by a car, but you were not using a crosswalk, you may be partially at fault for your injuries.

If you are found to be partially at fault for your accident, you will not be able to recover any compensation for your damages.

It is important to discuss your case with a personal injury lawyer who handles cases in Greensboro, NC, as soon as possible so that they can help you determine if contributory negligence will impact your case.

Determining the Value of Your Claim

The value of your personal injury claim will depend on many factors. These may include the severity of your injuries, whether your injuries are permanent, the amount of medical bills you have incurred, and the length of time you have been unable to work.

A personal injury law firm will work with you to determine the value of your claim. They will also negotiate with the insurance companies on your behalf to get you the best possible settlement.

How Do I Know If I Have a Valid Personal Injury Claim?

The best way to find out if you have a valid personal injury claim is to contact a personal injury lawyer. They will review the facts of your case and let you know what your legal options are.

You should not try to handle your case on your own, as insurance companies will often take advantage of people who do not have legal representation.

Contacting a personal injury lawyer is the best way to ensure that you get the compensation you deserve.

Damages You Can Recover in a Greensboro Personal Injury Claim

If you are successful in your personal injury claim, you may be able to recover a variety of damages. These may include:

  • Medical expenses
  • Lost wages
  • Pain and suffering
  • Property damage

Your personal injury lawyer who handles claims in Greensboro will work with you to determine what damages you are entitled to.

Wrongful Death Claims in Greensboro, NC

If you have lost a loved one in an accident, you may be able to file a wrongful death claim. This type of claim is different from a personal injury claim, as it is filed by the family members of the deceased rather than the injured party.

Wrongful death claims are complex and can be very emotional. It is important to have an experienced lawyer on your side who can help you through this difficult time.

STEPS INDIVIDUALS CAN TAKE TO HELP PROTECT PERSONAL INFORMATION

Monitor Your Accounts

Under U.S. law, a consumer is entitled to one free credit report annually from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. To order a free credit report, visit www.annualcreditreport.com or call, toll-free, 1-877-322-8228. Consumers may also directly contact the three major credit reporting bureaus listed below to request a free copy of their credit report.

Consumers have the right to place an initial or extended “fraud alert” on a credit file at no cost. An initial fraud alert is a 1-year alert that is placed on a consumer’s credit file. Upon seeing a fraud alert display on a consumer’s credit file, a business is required to take steps to verify the consumer’s identity before extending new credit. If consumers are the victim of identity theft, they are entitled to an extended fraud alert, which is a fraud alert lasting seven years. Should consumers wish to place a fraud alert, please contact any of the three major credit reporting bureaus listed below.

As an alternative to a fraud alert, consumers have the right to place a “credit freeze” on a credit report, which will prohibit a credit bureau from releasing information in the credit report without the consumer’s express authorization. The credit freeze is designed to prevent credit, loans, and services from being approved in a consumer’s name without consent. However, consumers should be aware that using a credit freeze to take control over who gets access to the personal and financial information in their credit report may delay, interfere with, or prohibit the timely approval of any subsequent request or application they make regarding a new loan, credit, mortgage, or any other account involving the extension of credit. Pursuant to federal law, consumers cannot be charged to place or lift a credit freeze on their credit report. To request a credit freeze, individuals may need to provide some or all of the following information:

1. Full name (including middle initial as well as Jr., Sr., II, III, etc.);
2. Social Security number;
3. Date of birth;
4. Addresses for the prior two to five years;
5. Proof of current address, such as a current utility bill or telephone bill;
6. A legible photocopy of a government-issued identification card (state driver’s license or ID card, etc.); and
7. A copy of either the police report, investigative report, or complaint to a law enforcement agency concerning identity theft if they are a victim of identity theft.

Should consumers wish to place a credit freeze or fraud alert, please contact the three major credit reporting bureaus listed below:
