What’s the Big Deal About the 7th Amendment?

Time is running out to apply for one of our three (3) scholarships for One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00) available to high schools seniors who reside in Pitt County, NC. Applications are extended through April 30, 2020, so hurry up and submit your application if you want to be considered.

Why did we ask our high school seniors to tell us about the 7th Amendment?

We have all heard of our First Amendment right to free speech, our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms, our Fourth Amendment right against unreasonable search and seizure, our Fifth Amendment right to due process, and our Sixth Amendment right to have an attorney. But the 7th Amendment is usually ignored and goes unmentioned when discussing the Bill of Rights.

Our founding fathers thought it was an important right and included it in the Bill of Rights for a good reason. The Declaration of Independence also states the ideas and intentions of our founding fathers as it relates to the right to a jury trial.

Will our high school seniors be able to shed some light on the importance of the 7th Amendment and how it affects each of us in the United States of America? We hope so!

When the competition is over, we look forward to sharing our views on the 7th Amendment and the ideas that our high school seniors presented in their video submissions.

Please look out for our follow-up post, where we will share with you what the students came up with, and we will also share our views as attorneys on the importance of this Amendment. Until then, stay safe and encourage your high school seniors who reside in Pitt County, NC, to apply for this opportunity to earn some money for college.
