Two dead, one injured after Lancaster County crash

Two people passed away and one person was injured after a crash Monday afternoon, September 4th in Lancaster County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The crash occurred at approximately 2:55 p.m. on U.S. Highway 521 three miles north of Lancaster. A 1992 Buick sedan was traveling south on Highway 521 when it collided with a 2002 Toyota pickup truck towing a boat that was illegally parked on the road.

The coroner’s office said the driver and passenger of the pickup truck got out of the truck after they encountered a problem towing the boat. The passenger was in the boat at the time of the crash. While they were outside the truck, the Buick ran into the back of the boat, killing both the driver and passenger of the truck.

Officials identified the two victims as 29-year-old Kirstie Underwood and 34-year-old Timmy “TJ” Underwood. The driver of the Buick was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for injuries
