A Woman passed away in a crash late Saturday morning on August 5th, in Wake County. First responders received a call at about 11 a.m. in the 9800 block of Poole Road near the intersection with Major Slade Road, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Investigators determined the crash happened at about 3 a.m. when a neighbor claimed to hear a loud noise. They said someone called Highway Patrol after the vehicle was found later Saturday morning.
A Ford SUV was found flipped on its side off Poole Road near a group of trees. The woman who died was later identified as 38-year-old Elena Marie Burgos.
The N.C. State Highway Patrol said Burgos was traveling at about 65 miles per hour in a 45-mile-per-hour zone when she failed to stop at a stop sign at an intersection.
They said the SUV drove off the road onto private property, crossed a ditch, and hit a tree. Burgos was wearing her seatbelt but it didn’t keep her properly restrained because her seat was too far back. Officials said she was partially ejected from the vehicle when it flipped on its side, and she ended up in the back of the SUV.
