A woman passed away in an accident on Interstate 40 early Thursday morning on August 24th.
42-year-old, Lougenia Hollifield, from Morganton, was killed on I-40 eastbound near Mile Marker 101 when she walked out in front of an eastbound tractor-trailer at roughly 6:45 a.m.
Although the driver was already going well under the posted speed limit, he did not have time to stop or slow down. The pedestrian, Hollifield was pronounced dead at the scene.
No charges will be filed in connection with the accident.
